Synopsis
- Three young Kenyan women talk openly and entertainingly
about why they came to Germany and how they
experience German culture. Irene laughs as she shows
off the apartment where she lives with her husband and
son. Something that is not unusual here, but would never
happen in Kenya, is that guests only get as far as the living
room; the rest of the apartment is off limits. Irene feels
welcome here and she likes the Germans’ punctuality. After
Lilian broke off her studies in Kenya, her father sent her
to Germany on an exchange programme. She was initially
unprepared for the culture shock. In the meantime, she
has married Matthias. He loves techno and she loves African
music; together they enjoy German pop music. Susan,
on the other hand, always knew she wanted to live
in Germany. At first it was difficult, but she took advantage
of everything on offer, signed up for an intensive language
course and now knows she wants to be a kindergarten
teacher. The film gives us three women who have
arrived. With a sense of humour, but also great ambition,
they are realising the dream of a better life.
