Synopsis
- Jacob lives with his parents on the coast. ‘Lives’ is hardly the word for it; they’re so poor they don’t have a house, not even shoes. Yet they’re happy. One day Jacob goes fishing with his father and catches a huge fish. The fish promises to grant Jacob anything he wishes as long as Jacob lets him go. After pondering on what he could wish for, Jacob hits on shoes. And lo and behold, he gets a lovely pair of shoes! Trouble is, his parents would quite like some shoes, too. And a house …or a villa. Or maybe a castle. Every day they send Jacob back to the fish and the fish makes all their wishes come true. But Jacob feels bad because the fish is meanwhile growing thinner and thinner. And he and his parents are not getting any happier…
GOLD uses music and humour to explore the thin line between justifiable wishes and unbridled greed. Yet what is happiness exactly? In any case, the work ends with Jacob as happy as can be. GOLD is sung, narrated and acted out by Christina Sidak and Lukas Böhm.
