Synopsis
- Gianni Versace: There have been few other cases of star designers where such a meteoric rise has been followed by such an abrupt and tragic end. His path from Calabrian tailor and buyer of fabrics to fashion empire mogul ended with his murder by male prostitute and serial killer Andrew Cunanan outside Versace’s villa on Ocean Drive, Miami. English director Martin Butler teams up with Berlin band Brandt Brauer Frick to present this parable of Versace’s rise and fall using the format of a vogue ball, typical of the vogueing subculture that arose in 1980s New York, in which people dressed as celebrities from the world of glamour or fantasy and performed dance routines based on a synthesis of urban-dance moves and catwalk elements. The performance will be hosted by Amsterdam vogueing queen Amber Vineyard. The GIANNI ensemble will also feature soprano Claron Mc-Fadden and Seth Carico, a member of the ensemble of the Deutsche Oper Berlin. World premiere on 1. October 2016
