Lebenslauf
• 1944 After finishing school in North-Rhine-Westphalia, Steinweg studies social sciences in Nuremberg, Montpellier and Leicester. In 1969, he makes his first contact with film by joining Cinema Action in London, where he trains for two years. In 1974 he continues his formation at Deutsche Film- und Fernsehakademie, Berlin (dffb) and at the same time initiates Arbeit und Film e.V. in Frankfurt/M. Managing this association he works as producer, director, cameraman, soundman, editor, and distributor, producing and presenting films for the German trade union movement. Since 1977 Steinweg does contract work for German television: producing and directing documentaries and art films. For KANAL 4 he creates two long running TV series: Startloch and European Video Dance. In 1992 he starts his collaboration with Koskela Art & Media House in Finland co-producing art films and documentaries. In 1993, he sets up his own independent film company Picture Pan Production GmbH producing documentaries, art films, and short fiction films. Since 2005 he is working as freelance producer, journalist and consultant. Steinweg is co-founder of the German Documentary Filmmakers Association (agdok) and has presented German films abroad on behalf of the Goethe-Institute. Steinweg’s productions have won national and international awards.
• 1944-2010 Freier Filmemacher und Journalist, verheiratet, Vater und Großvater Jahrgang 1944; Abitur in Lemgo/Lippe; Studium der Sozialwissenschaften in Nürnberg, Leicester und Montpellier; zwei Lehrjahre in Sachen Film bei der Londoner Gruppe ''Cinema Action''; drei Lehrjahre in Sachen Arbeiterklasse: als Chemiearbeiter in Dortmund und Frankfurt/M; Filmstudium an der Deutschen Film- und Fernsehakademie, Berlin; Mitbegründer und Vorsitzender des Vereins „Arbeit Und Film“, Frankfurt/M; Tätigkeiten in den Funktionen: Produktion, Regie, Kamera, Ton, Schnitt; Auftragsarbeiten für den Öffentlich-Rechtlichen Rundfunk: Fernsehen und Radio, sowie für KANAL 4, ARTE und für verschiedene Gewerkschaften, Landesministerium NRW, Arbeitsamt, Bundeszentrale für Gesundheitliche Aufklärung. Reisen für das Goethe-Institute. Dazwischen immer wieder freie Filmproduktionen. Für mich persönlich ist mein wichtigstes Werk der Dokumentarfilm „Haus der Kindheit“ - eine Reise mit meinen drei Geschwistern in die vom Nationalsozialismus geprägte Geschichte unserer Familie.
